Kiss rose to prominence in the 1970s due to their spectacular live stage shows featuring fireworks, smoking guitars and circus performers. In the 1980s Kiss abandoned the face paint and had commercial success as a mainstream rock band. However in the 1990s Kiss nostalgia led them to re-instate the face paint and costumes. The Kiss Alive World Tour was the most successful live tour in 1996.
