| The Beatles The Beatles are Britain's most famous group and are the bestselling musical act of all time in the USA. The core of the group played together in Liverpool during the late fifties as `The Quarrymen'. The name `The Beatles' was settled on in August 1960. The Beatles had more than 40 UK hits before announcing their break-up in 1969.

| Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin is regarded as one of the first and greatest of the heavy rock bands famous for their heavy guitar-driven sound. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were the driving force behind the group and they have been credited with influencing numerous rock bands. They were labelled `the biggest band in the world' in the 70s, due to the success of a series of albums, such as `Physical Graffiti' and `The Song Remains the Same'.

| Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are one of the UKs most influential heavy rock bands. They formed in east London in 1975 and say they were influenced by bands such as Thin Lizzy and Deep Purple. The album `The Number of the Beast reached No.1 in the UK album chart in 1982 and is their greatest success. Iron Maiden are very popular live performers and have headlined numerous festivals including Reading and Leeds.

| Pink Floyd Pink Floyd initially earned recognition for their psychedelic rock music. However it was the release of Dark Side of the Moon that projected them in to one of rock music's most successful acts, backed up by spectacular live performances. The group sold over 200 million albums worldwide before splitting up in 1985.

| Queen Queen - fronted by the late, great Freddie Mercury were one of the iconic British rock bands who have had an amazing 25 top ten hits in the UK in a thirty year career. The single `Killer Queen which was their first hit in 1974 and within a year they scored a massive hit with `Bohemian Rhapsody which was at No.1 for nine weeks in the UK and became the 3rd best selling single ever. Success continued unitl the tragic deat of Freddie Mercury died in 1991.

| The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones are one of the greatest rock bands in history. From their formation in the 1960s to date, they continue to successfully write and perform. They have had 32 top ten singles in the UK and USA and have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. Fronted by Mick Jagger, with guitarist Keith Jagger, drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman, they are now a British institution.

| Thin Lizzy Thin Lizzy formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. Led by legendary bassist, songwriter and singer Phil Lynott, they are best known for their songs "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back in Town", both major international hits still played regularly on hard rock and classic rock radio stations. After a farewell tour in 1984, Lynott dissolved Thin Lizzy and focused on his solo career, but Lynott tragically died in January 1986, a victim of drug abuse.

| The Who The Who first formed in 1964, and grew to be considered one of the greatest and most influential bands in the world. They are also famed for their prowess as a live band - winning awards and being described as "possibly the greatest live band ever." Despite the deaths of Keith Moon and John Entwistle, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey continue to perform as The Who. In 2006 they released the studio album Endless Wire, which reached the top ten in the USA and UK.
