Other hits followed, including `I Walk the Line, `Ring of Fire and `A Boy Named Sue. Cash became well-known for his sympathetic portrayals of prison life and in the late 1950s he performed live gigs at a number of US prisons. |

Songs such as `Blowin in the Wind and `Times They Are a Changing became anthems for anti-war and civil rights movements. In 2004 Dylan was ranked No.2 in Rolling Stone magazines 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

| Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix is one of the most influential rock guitarists. He achieved critical acclaim following his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and later he headlined the iconic Woodstock Festival in 1969 before his death in 1970. Hendrix was a self-taught musician who was famous for playing the Fender Stratocaster upside down and for pioneering guitar feedback with overdriven amplifiers. A memorial to Hendrix stands at Renton, Washington state.

She signed for the British music writer/producers Stock Aitken & Waterman and had a string of top ten hits, including `I Should Be So Lucky. Kylie split with SA&W in 1992 but continued to have hits. Her best selling hit to date is `Cant Get You Out Of My Head released in 2001 which went to No.1 in more than 20 countries.

| Madonna Madonna is listed by Guinness World Records as the most successful female recording artist of all time. Her first UK hit was `Holiday which reached No. 6 in the UK singles charts in 1983. A number of other singles hits followed, including `Like a Virgin, `Material Girl and `Crazy for You, before she had her first UK No.1 with `Into the Groove. Madonna has created various personas throughout her music career and became a style icon for many young women throughout the 80s and 90s.

| Elvis Presley Elvis is an American cultural icon and one of the most important performing artists in rock n roll history. He was at the forefront of popular music and he was called `the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. His first No.1 hit was `Heartbreak Hotel in 1956. There followed a further 11 US No.1s in three years, including `Hound Dog and `Jailhouse Rock. In total he had 18 US No.1 hits. Elvis died in 1977 but his reputation remains stratospheric years after his death.
